Date and Venue Change

Love takes to the air in “A Love Song to Myself,” the debut performance of Chattanooga’s new aerial dance company, Grounded High, on Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. at the Rivoli Art Mill on 28th St., midway between Dodds Ave. and 4th Ave.

The show features Amy Powell, Jen Keehn, Mary Jones and Rob Beasley, all of Chattanooga, Julie Phillips and Chris Knights of Canopy Studio in Athens, Ga., and Anna Holbrook and Kelly Stracener, both of Asheville, N.C.

Tickets are $8 and may be reserved in advance by calling 706 372-7425, or by emailing amy@shinyredball.com.

The show celebrates “the many aspects of being human,” said Ms. Powell, who founded the company.

“Each dance is deeply personal to the dancer, and we feel this serves as a beautiful and appropriate introduction of ourselves and our new dance company to Chattanooga,” she said. “At the same time, we are celebrating the aspects of being human that are a part of everyone’s lives.”

Since “A Love Song to Myself” embraces the human experience, there is a special connection with the audience, Ms. Powell said.

"We’d like to connect with all of you, not just put on a show,” she said. “We’d like to have a meaningful conversation of sorts and let you be entertained, inspired, touched, thrilled and included by everything we do in our performance.”

Recently relocated to Chattanooga from Athens, Ga., Ms. Powell brings her experience as a repertory performer and instructor at Canopy Studio in Athens, where she was intimately familiar with dance and circus trapeze, as well as aerial silks (sometimes called tissu or fabric), lyra, bungee and other apparatuses.

At Canopy, she trained with both visiting Cirque du Soleil performers and Canopy director Susan Murphy, who was a pupil of aerial dance pioneer Terry Sendgraff.
